Intelligent character recognition (ICR) is an advanced version of OCR that allows for the location, recognition, and extraction of hand-printed text from paper documents. This technology is not designed to process hand writing, but rather hand-printed text that has been structured (i.e. entered into pre-printed text boxes) to maximize accuracy. As with any forms processing effort, the use of ICR is measurably improved through the use of well organized and smartly designed forms.
