Nolij Forms Processing for Higher Education: Optical Mark Recognition

Optical mark recognition (OMR) is a technology designed to identify the presence of a mark within a pre-determined area of a form.  Reading check boxes is a good example of leveraging OMR technology.  OMR works by essentially detecting increased reflectivity within a pre-determined area of a form, thus indicating that area was ‘marked’.

OMR technology is also leveraged in recognizing and converting two dimensional bar codes.  Bar codes can be used, for example, to store basic information about a document to which they are attached.  Bar coded documents can then be scanned, automatically identified, and filed in a system such as the Nolij Web document imaging solution.
